What is Sheet Piling?

Sheet piles are flat shaped sections of material with interlocking edges which are driven into the ground to provide earth retention and excavation support.  They may be used temporarily or permanently as walls or structures. How does sheet piling work?

The premise is long narrow interlocking sheets, usually handled as pairs, are driven in the ground with vibratory hammers.  The interconnected sheets form a wall.  Different shapes and thicknesses of material help to define the different uses and load characteristics.
